FAQs

will the doula take away form my husbands role?

Absolutely not, as a doula I am here to support the partner, so they can be a stronger support for the laboring person. I offer education and suggestions to the partner, so they can feel empowered to be a better help. This is your special day, and I help to nurture that experience for you both.

Is a doula only good for nonmedicated births?

A doula is great for any kind of birth. A doula is there to support you in your birth, however you define it. They can offer support in many ways, even with an epidural or caesarian birth.

Is a doula less expensive version of a midwife?

They are completely different. A midwife delivers the baby and is more focused on the safety and health of the mother and baby, where a doula is there to nurture the mother in labor emotionally. When a women is in labor they go into another world, a doula goes into that world with them. A midwife must stay focused on the health of the labor.

If my hospital offers a childbirth class, is that the same as yours?

Not quite, a hospital childbirth class will mostly focus on hospital policy and explain intervention options. My private class will explain physiological birth and cover your rights and options as a patient as well as educating on comfort measures and evidence based birth.

I don’t have time for the 4 week course, is there another option?

Totally! Although I would recommend the 4 weeks, as you will learn so much, as a busy mom myself, I understand not having the extra time. So I offer a 2 hour intensive option, where I tailor the class to your specific desires and fears of childbirth.

I have a few friends that would be interested, could we do it together?

Absolutely! I have group rates available. These classes could be done in person at a local facility or via Zoom. It’s wonderful to start your “village” now as a support system for each other in pregnancy, birth and motherhood.
