Hi, i’M bLYTHE SMITH.

Growing up, I never wanted to be anything other than a mom. Other little girls dreamed of being a cowgirl or a doctor, but for me, holding my baby in my arms was all I wanted. After my first was born, the first words out of my mouth were “I wanna do that again!” I have been so blessed to have five beautiful children and have had the privilege of helping another family have a child through surrogacy. With each baby I have had, my passion for birth has grown and grown, and with the support of my amazing husband (because its hard be a birth doula, without the support of my rock of a husband) I have been able to turn my passions into a career. I am so honored to support families in their birth, helping to empower them to have the birth they desire.

Blythe is certified massage therapist through Monterey Institute of Touch, A certified birth doula through DONA International, and child birth educator through Lamaze International, and also a 200 hour certified yoga and barre teacher. In 2016 the surrogacy agency that Blythe was a gestational carrier for, Surrogate Parenting Services, asked her to be apart of the team, so for the last five years, she has been helping families navigate surrogacy as a case manager. In total, Blythe has been in the healing arts for over ten years and a birth worker for five years, and she is committed to helping families have their best birth!

My Approach

I believe birth is beautiful and our bodies are amazing and capable, but we need to learn to trust our bodies and our alibies to birth. As a birth doula, I don’t care how you birth - all I care about is that you are educated and informed on your choices and that you feel nurtured and supported throughout your experience.

A woman in labor is highly vulnerable. Her most private body parts are exposed. She may sweat, tremble, moan, or cry out while amongst strangers. She is often unfamiliar with the environment. If she is treated with a nurturing kindness and respected, the positive impact is permanent. But if she is treated without respect, if her efforts to maintain dignity and control are rebuffed, that too can have a life long impact.

EXPERIENCE

For over 5 years I have been so honored to be able to help support families in their birth. Every birth I attend, I grow and become more in awe of the human capability. Women are stronger than they know, they just need to be nurtured and reminded of their power. With education and positive encouragement I help take the fear out of birth.

BACKGROUND

My heart has always drawn me to the healing arts and helping people. Becoming a birth worker has been the most rewarding journey. I am able to pull from my understanding from my own births and years of nurturing children. To be a constant support in the most rawest moment of a vulnerable mama in labor.
